Familiar Faces is a portrait series that explores themes of immigration, diversity, and connection. This project began in September 2023 when I set out to find people in my area to photograph. A flyer I posted at the local college prompted responses from international students who were eager to build connections within the Sarnia, Ontario community. Through these encounters, photography became a powerful tool for fostering conversation and meaningful relationships with these newcomers. Having their stories told and feeling visible in a new community is empowering and helps our international friends feel like they too are part of the familiar places we call home.
You can read more about their stories here, Macleans, A City of Newcomers
